I work in Times Square. This morning while walking to my office from the subway, I noticed a 2x2 colored foiled square fluttering about in the corner of door. Yes, folks...it was leftover pieces of confetti that fell over the thousands of people who gather here last Wednesday night for New Year's Eve. It already seems distant, especially the way that it floated around by itself, separate from the 4-5 other pieces that were settled in the ground. Like if they had voices, the pieces settled were like, "Dude. Stop trying to relive it."
2009 is starting off very quiet. I've got my resolutions and now I just need the jump-off.
A meme of 2008 was posted on a blog I occasionally read. I found it reflective. So, I present it now via me....
1. What did you do in 2008 that you’d never done before?
I learned how to swing dance
2. Did you keep your new year’s resolutions, did you make new one for this year?
No, b/c I didn't make any last year. Yes, I made some for this year. See previous post.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Yes. Mya and B. Mazel-tov to both!
4. Did anyone close to you die?
My grandmother
5. What countries did you visit?
Hungary, Czech Republic, Germany, Austria and Canada
6. What would you like to have in 2009 that you lacked in 2008?
Professional satisfaction
7. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Letting go
9. What was your biggest failure?
I don't think it was a failure. Can I call it my biggest disappointment?....that I allowed myself to get all twisted about something that someone else did!
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Yes, I had that 3 week weird bronchitis-laryngitis-virus that wouldn't give up in the middle of summer!
11. What was the best thing you bought?
My recycled wood desk/dining room table!
12. Where did most of your money go?
My mortgage
13. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Returning to Hawaii and going to the George Michael concert!
14. Compared to this time last year, are:
a)happier or sadder?
b)thinner or fatter?
c) richer or poorer?
a) Happier
b) right now I feel fatter but that's b/c I think I gained 2 lbs over the last 2 weeks
c) it's an even split - not greatly richer, yet not poorer
15. What do you wish you’d done more of?
Meeting new people
16. What do you wish you’d done less of?
Hibernating
17. Did you fall in love in 2008?
Nope
18. What was your favorite TV program?
In Treatment & Gossip Girl
19. Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year?
Hate too strong, how about "dislike"? Although, I can't stand Heidi and Spencer from "The Hills". Actually, while we're at it, how about all of the non-celebs who are famous for being on a "reality" show that really have no talent but to produce superficial drama?
20. What was the best book you read?
The Glass Castle by Jeanette Wells
21. What did you want and get?
I got a Wii! I went back to Hawaii after a 2 year hiatus and I managed to go out on successful decent dates with a few men who were overall good, but sadly just not for me. Not just talk about the weird, bad or comical dates.
22. What did you want and not get?
Career motivation (this is a reoccurring theme my work, isn't it? better be positive foreshadowing for this year!)
23. What was your favorite film of this year?
Hmm....this is a tough one. I have "favorite" in different ways. Quantum of Solace, well b/c I had nearly 2 hrs of Daniel Craig lust. Sex & The City: Movie - not b/c it was amazing, but b/c it's fantasy land for women.
24. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
Shopping with my mom, dinner with my family and friends. I turned *whisper* 37!
25. How you would describe your personal fashion concept in 2008?
Simple, comfortable, minimal and adding the "one" piece to your outfit that makes it unique (ie. shoe, jewelry, bag or accessory)
26. What kept you sane?
Meditation via television, aka....shutting out the world and zoning out for a bit
27. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Duh.....Daniel Craig
28. Who was the best new person you met?
PL Girl
29. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2008.
Trust your gut!
30. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year.
"have no fear for givin' in. Have no fear for givin' over. Say what you need to say" - John Mayer
